The State of Connecticut Department of Education has taken the lead on several key farm to school efforts, including the CT Fresh Ed Buy Local Program that fuels local and regionally grown purchases. CT Fresh Ed represents a state commitment to advancing the 3 C’s of Farm to School - Cafeteria, Classroom, and Community. UConn Extension works in close coordination  with CT Fresh Ed to advance best practices, strengthen connections between schools and farmers, encourage hands-on learning, organize an annual Farm to School conference, and much more.

Ready to Sell Farmer Training

UConn Extension implements a cohort-based learning experience for 10-12 farmers each year who are ready to learn how to sell to schools. Participants in the program learn about school buyer expectations, forward contracts, food safety considerations, and more. A goal of the training is for all participants to attain new sales to a school buyer.
